Addressing the Progression |
The Jewish HealthCare Center, a leader in providing Alzheimer and related disorder care since 1988, has recognized that care must be provided for this population across a continuum. Our goal is to continue the tradition of caring for those individuals and family members that must cope with this difficult disease.
Alzheimer’s disease is a degenerative disease of the brain that impairs memory, thinking and behavior. It can be frustrating to live with the inability to remember words or names, follow directions or complete every day tasks. It can be frightening to become confused by a change in flooring material or shadows on the wall at dusk.
We have developed a continuum to address the unique care needs of the Alzheimer resident as they progress through the different stages of the disease process. For the early to mid stages of the disease, the Eisenberg Assisted Living Residence has created the “Keepsake Program,” a safe and secure floor of nineteen individual apartments with its own dining, activities, and specialized staff. For the later stages of the disease, and as care needs increase, The Jewish HealthCare Center offers an advanced stage Alzheimer’s Unit. Located on the fifth floor, the unit includes private and semi-private rooms for forty residents. All staff have completed a specialized training program certified through the Alzheimer’s Association of Massachusetts.
